Can’t see the wood for the trees!

My grandad would say ‘I can’t see the wood for the trees’. At first, I never knew what that meant, but as I got older and became an adult I began to understand. But it wasn’t until I survived September and got into October that I truly understood what he meant.

Let me explain…

September wasn’t a particular easy month for the Dog Lodge. There was a lot of demand and expectation, and many changes. We always do our best to accommodate everything we are asked even when it will make our lives a little harder. We do provide a service but as a small family run business it does mean we have to take care of our family alongside, and it often doesn’t make for a good work/life balance. It also meant that all the good intentions I had of starting the shop, doing more studying meaning I am closer to goals, and getting the consultations up and running, did not happen.

Then on top of all that was the weather! It was either too warm or too wet and cold. And for it to be this cold and for me and Sarah to be experiencing the grim weather so early, is pretty miserable.

I was pretty sad coming out of September looking back and thinking what on earth did we achieve?

And that’s where my grandads saying came in: I could hear him saying it to me ‘Come on George, you can’t see the wood for the trees’. I needed to look through those trees and look for the wood. And that is what I did. Despite everything, despite how tired and exhausted I was, despite how hard we all worked, there was some really lovely occurrences and occasions both during family life and through the business.

I’ve managed to take a breath, realise that September perhaps wasn’t that bad after all, completed the last units I needed for a couple of courses I was doing, and today I started the shop!

The first items we will be selling are by a company called FETCH IT. They make compostable pet products. I have been using them for quite a few months now and I am really impressed. I have tried many bags over the years and trust me I’ve experienced some absolute disasters! But I like these, not just because they are environmentally friendly, but because I pick up lots of poop and they do the job well.

I will be adding more to the shop in the coming days, weeks and months, so please bear with us whilst I get the hang of it.

In the meantime, please read, like, share, subscribe, and buy if you need anything.
