Puppy Sleep Training: Final Post for this Puppy Week
Here's your plan for puppy bedtime success:
Cozy Crate Setup:
Use a crate (highly recommended!)
Add soft blankets
Include a hot water bottle for warmth
Throw in a cuddly toy for comfort
Soothing Sounds:
Leave soft music or a radio on
Helps transition from daytime noise to nighttime quiet
Bedtime Routine:
Put puppy in bed
Say a calm "night night"
Cover the crate partially
Walk away without fuss
The Crying Game:
Here's where it gets tricky, but stay strong! Use the 10-20-30 method:
a) First 10 minutes of crying:
Ignore it (I know, it's hard!)
If still crying after 10 minutes, go down
No lights, stay calm
Quick "shush" and "night night"
Leave again
b) Next 20 minutes:
Repeat the process if crying continues
c) After 30 minutes:
If still crying, take them out for a quick potty break
No lights, no excitement
Straight back to bed after
Start the 10-20-30 cycle again
Consistency is Key:
This might take a couple of weeks
Be patient and persistent
Don't give in (no matter how tempting!)
Remember, every puppy is different. Some might settle quickly, others might test your patience (and eardrums). But stick with it - the payoff of a well-rested pup (and human) is worth it!
