Annie part 2
May 31, 2016
I hadn't seen Annie for a week so when I picked her up on the Monday I was intrigued to see how she reacted to me. I didn't get an open armed welcome but there was recognition and a lot of trust as she was bought out to greet me. She happily came with me, taking it all in her stride. Almost like she looked at me to saying 'I wondered when you would turn up, now lets go'. Our walk that day was nice and confident, like there had hardly been any time where I hadn't walked her. But on the Tuesday, things went up a gear!
Here is Annie with Skylar and new buddy Alfie. I think she feels very confident when Skylar is around. It's not surprising, as mellow as Skylar the ridgeback can be, I think we all feel safe with her. And she she was desperate to play with Alfie which I hadn't seen at all with Annie so far. She is usually too busy being anxious or getting over the anxiety to relax enough to play. But just look at how relaxed Annie is here. She even had a wee whilst on lead! Now I know that sounds like an odd thing to celebrate, but for her to have a wee whilst she was out with me and on a lead, is a lot to shout about!
And then, just after this was taken, she gave me a kiss!! Now I am not one for dog kisses, but getting one off Annieliscious just a few weeks into walking her and after a week off, well! it totally made my day! My week even!
Then came this photo. I cant tell you how much I love this picture. It makes me smile instantly. And I caught it just by accident. Its a self explanatory photo.
Annie is still nervous of things whilst she's with me, but she trusts me so much more, she really enjoys the company of the other dogs and they make her more confident whilst she is on a walk. We are venturing further away from her house and her comfort zone. It's all progress. It's just about having the patience, taking my time with her, showing her she has nothing to fear and for her to experience more every day things with me.
It's going to be a couple of weeks before I see her again due to school holidays, so it is going to be interesting to see her response to me with a bigger gap between our walks.
