We have uniform! woohoo!
May 10, 2016
Today we finally got uniforms. I'm not sure why I have waited so long to get some form of uniform, but last week I made a snap decision and they arrived today. So far so good. They feel nice and I really like the green. Thumbs up currently all round. Well apart from the fleece Ben is wearing which was supposed to be for me, lol, but never mind we'll see how well they wash and look at getting some more.
When I tried them on it was strange. Let me explain. I have had my own business doing this for nearly 4 years, its had its ups and downs like all businesses do. But on the whole I love my job, I love my owners and their gorgeous fur babies. But my confidence isn't the best. Don't get me wrong I am very confident in what I do. I have a wealth of experience and knowledge with all kinds of animals, I am always open to learning new ways of caring for animals, I am adaptable and flexible to each animals needs, and I am currently studying for a Diploma in Canine Care. But there are so many people starting dog walking/boarding/per visit businesses both solo and franchises, it makes me concerned that people wont need me any more.
But putting the uniform on today gave me the confidence I needed. It made me realize how proud I am of myself and my family for working so hard with our little family business. I didn't want to take the t shirt off! This business isn't just about making money and paying bills. We do genuinely like/love/care for the animals we are lucky enough to be trusted with as our own. It wasn't just a flash in the pan, I didn't wake up one morning and say I know, that sounds easy I'll walk dogs! From being a little girl, animals have been a huge part of my life - in the home, via tv programs especially with David Attenborough, books, wildlife, animal rescue and conservation - so for me especially it is like having my own extendable farm.
Not only have I been lucky enough to care for some of the most gorgeous of beloved pets, but I have made some very lovely friends and colleagues, fellow dog walkers and pet carers, who are like minded, caring, genuine, helpful and incredibly supportive.
Today my new t shirt made me realize how lucky I am to do what I do and how proud I am of myself.
I know now and realize that no matter who comes and goes in the dog walking/pet care world, who I am, how we as a family work, all the care we show, all the experience we have, all the knowledge I have and still gaining, all the colleagues and friends who help and advise, is what makes The Cambridge Dog Lodge what it is and why it will continue and grow for the foreseeable. If only I had bought the uniform sooner x
